Typographic Docking Station…

I spent a couple of hours today mocking up an idea for a docking station using dimensional typography.

The next step is to ensure theres enough room to incorporate the speakers and the iPod/MP3 itself. Could the player be tucked within one of the letter forms…? Still only a rough concept, but i feel there is so much scope.

Within this design - to correct the design from the product point of view, i could make the ‘es’ join and lower the ’s’ giving adequate room for the second speaker.

Post will be updated as the design progresses.

Having done some research on speakers, i came across this design by Nokia for the XpressMusic Phone. I can see that creating the actualt letter forms as the speakers would work - imagine the shape here could be an ‘A’ or a ‘V.’

Very pleased with this find, still researching further and looking at other possibilities with the actual wording:

  1. This is a totally cool idea! I am excited to see it upon
    completion. Nice work

  2. Hey Sarah ;) been away for a while now, winter vacation (yes, winter) has been a lot of work. I love this idea, hope it does work out and gets into production. What font it this? it's gorgeous and lends itself nicely to the whole idea.

I suppose the speakers could be embeded into any part, but I imagine adapting their oft cone-like volume into the S's top & bottom, &/or the U's cradle. It should be cleverly, and aesthetically integrated so as to seem invisible or blatantly obvious.

Ok, just say that X marks the spot already. I'll leave the above as random musings then. How to let sound out without allowing visual noise in? Choosing those speaker covers seems more than crucial now.

The dock I am not crazy about yet, will the player be introduced vertically or horizontally?

    keep it up!

  3. Thank you for the detailed feedback, i’m hoping to focus more attention on this project on the completion of my website.

Taking a lot of my time lately, i hope the end result reflects the energy i’ve put into it!

Thanks again - i will take everything on-board and i agree with the docking - hopefully i will find another solution - i have managed to research more into the actual speakers which has opened my eyes greatly. I actually like the idea of the Vibe text - on an angle - but we’ll see how it develops!

    Sarah
