— Work in progress*

Work In Progress* is my visual diary; documenting my thoughts on design, captures, creations and inspirations including stages of personal creative projects where possible.
Archiving since August 2007

Hi, I’m Sarah France. I started studying Graphic Design in September of 2002, I consider myself to be extremely fortunate as my job entails doing what I love.

I grew up in the small village of Pica Cottages, Cumbria; influenced by artist such as Andy Goldsworthy, Jackson Pollock, designers Stefan Sagmeister, Neville Brody, David Carson and a whole lot of fresh countryside air. In 2007, after completing my design studies at the University of Cumbria, Carlisle, I headed for a more rural location and began working in Windermere, the heart of the Lake District. After that I sneaked a spell of city life in Edinburgh.

I now run my own studio as a freelance designer, with recent clients including Nom Dairy, Border Biscuits and Lockheed Martin. Notable former clients include New York Times Magazine, Booths and Lakeland… which is nice. I am a firm believer in designing with reason, I focus on ideas led design for clients and my own personal projects.

Over the years I have gained experience in a variety of sectors including culture, travel/tourism, leisure, education, fashion, retail and I am a connoisseur in the food and drink sector – working with fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and designing across a wide range of POP/POS and packaging. My specialist areas are in identity and brand development, packaging and retail environments, art direction and photography.

I live in Sandwith, Whitehaven with my better half John (a mad scientist), and our little bump (due at the end of August).

Having been featured in several publications and on various design blogs and networks lots of people have been kind enough to showcase my work over the years for which I am very thankful.
