Work in Progress*

I love typography

Having purchased EstaPro a while ago now, i paid another visit to the ever growing TypeTrust. Here are a selection of my favourites, I will be saving to purchase some of these, they are just beautiful. KariPro and Volupia (just purchased) are particularly stunning.

Placement Work

Yesterday, I began a work placement at CN Group Studio. Being there for only two days, I have learned so much about their company. I fully understand why experience is a must when it comes to applying for jobs, the industry pace and standards was unknown to me. I am looking forward to the following days ahead, having live projects in my portfolio, and furthering my understandings.

It is so exciting gaining my experience from CN Group, I have never been so enthusiastic about my future career as a Graphic Designer and Visual Communicator.

Below is a small example of a typographic header I produced for an advertisement template, whereby multiple Garden advertisements will be inserted. The logotype was created in Illustrator, for some reason the quality is not as sharp on the internet.

Sarah France: Method

A big thank you to Scott Hansen, an outstanding inspirational Artist and Musician, for featuring me on his iso50 blog. His style of visual communication is breath-taking, using strong typographic treatment and perfectly structured compositions. Scott’s talents are endless.

UPDATING

I’m currently updating the blog layout.

3D Typography

Having looked at the specification for the Xara3D; to produce high quality 3D graphics I was amazed to see that it is not yet available for Mac. Although, looking a bit further, I came across Cheetah3D.

Seamless Mac OS X integration:

“Accept no substitute. Cheetah3D has been written FROM THE GROUND UP for Mac OS X using Cocoa.”

So, I have downloaded the trial version, I must admit, it is quite addictive. Below is what I achieved with my very first attempt, using spline modelling, creating outlines in Illustrator, then exporting as a SVG. Quality lacks as it is a trial will not allow to save or export, therefore I have captured the screen.

Hairstylist Identity

Experimenting with vectorising: the outcome is really intricate and it would be amazing incorporated into a logotype. This is an initial idea, representing fallen curls. There are quite a few concepts i want to broach before going further with this design; involving tabletop photography.

ANTI

The Zine collaboration has hit it’s first hurdle. A fellow artist, Omar, found that there is already a magazine called anti everything which has had a blog since November. Silly as it sounds, this should of been the first protocol, checking that the name was not already in use. So we’ve been contemplating a new name. Myself and Omar think that the Zine should just be named ANTI (adding a keyword/theme to every issue), therefore with each issue the name could be adapted as appropriate, the first being ANTI-LOVE. This should be quite easy to achieve with the logo as a sticker placed on the cover.

The A5 format should still involve typography experiments, illustrations and collages and presented fully in Black & White.

The founder is Thom and the contributors are Omar, Sam and myself.

Identities

Logo Design for Willow Carvery & Restaurant and Detors Bookmakers. The Next step is to incorporate it into a Business Card Design with an image.

Porcelain Child

Today I had the pleasure of babysitting my nephew from the early morning until late afternoon. Having a little time on my hands, I caught him off guard while he was engrossed on the Wii, then whilst waiting on images exporting from InDesign I manipulated the capture.

Manipulation: Overlay/desaturation/colour selection

Identity

The two final vectors for the Darwish identity. The white lines between some characters needs to be sharper and the ‘S’ moved a little to the left, but other than that the logo itself is complete.

Darwish prefers the bottom design.
